The BEST Way to Cook Bacon

Cooking bacon seems intuitive enough. Like everything else it should be as simple as throwing it into a pan and letting it sizzle away…right? While this method will definitely get you a plateful of cooked bacon by the end of it, this process also results in grease splatters all over the stovetop. Forget your clothing- might as well throw it out now that it not only reeks of pork fat but also sports an impressive spray of grease droplets. That’s the price to pay for tossing, turning and generally babying every strip of salty pork in the pan.

Now as we dive head first into the wonderful world of Paleo where fat is king and bacon is totally allowed, we must insist that yes, there is a better way.

Bacon: You’re cooking it wrong.

Here’s the best way to make a batch of bacon:
Bake it in the oven.

Baking it in the oven is not only the simplest way to make a big batch all at once, it’s completely hands off and a dream to clean up afterwards.

Laid out strip by strip on a foil-lined sheet pan with a wire rack on top, it crisps up beautifully after a 10 minute trip to a 400˚ oven. There’s no flipping required. Simply wrap up and throw out the foil once the pan and fat has cooled.

No splatters anywhere and the smell of rendered bacon grease is contained in the oven. It’s the epitome of set it and forget it cooking.

Now go forth and bake your bacon and let us know if we’ve made you a true believer.
